Department Attorney Services Job Summary PURPOSE: To support and engage in a wide variety of tasks/assignments with the Port of Seattle Legal Department. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and dut! ies performed. Essential duties and responsibilities may inclu! de, but are not limited to, the following: Carry out legal research projects, draft legal memoranda, and assist in document production for litigation and/or public disclosure.

Will perform other litigation assistance as necessary and carry out legislative history research. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: The applicant should have the following skills: (1) understand and know how to carry out legal research for state and federal issues in a proficient manner; (2) excellent writing ability; (3) excellent verbal presentation skills; (4) can work collaboratively with other members of legal staff (lawyers and non-lawyers). QUALIFICATIONS: Must be enrolled and have completed the second year of studies in an accredited law school working towards a Juris Doctor (J.D.) Degree. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and interest in port/maritime/aviation industry and municipal law is preferred.

Second year law students are preferred, given the level of course work that ! they have been given exposure to. Environment Information Will generally work in an office environment. Weekly Standard Hours This internship position is designed to be part-time through the intern’s school year, with expected work of 10-15 hours per week. Normal work hours will be scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m.

  • 4:30 p.m. During the summer, the intern is expected to work full-time (37.5 hours per week) between the business hours listed above. The actual pay will be determined, in part, by the selected individual's year in school, amount of experience, and completed course work. This is a part-time (10 - 15 hours per week) position during the school year and a full-time (37.5 hours per week) intern position during the summer. In order to be eligible for an internship, applicants must ! be enrolled in an accredited law school working towards a J.D.

degree. If the intern is available and the Port deems it desirable, the internship may be extended through the intern’s third law school year, with the expected work at 10-15 hours per week. Candidates must be able to maintain student status in a graduate program throughout the duration of the internship. Interns will be subject to all Port policies and procedures.
