Amazon's Legal Department is looking for a talented technology attorney to support Amazon Web Services, a dynamic and rapidly growing business within Amazon.com. Amazon Web Services is at the forefront of the "cloud" computing and service industry providing IT infrastructure services such as on-demand compute capacity, storage, content delivery, querying of structured data, message queuing, software-as-service products, and more. Counsel will primarily support AWS's product groups, compliance initiatives, and operations, including new product development (including negotiating s! trategic and technology licensing agreements), security, DMCA/! abuse compliance, and open source. Typical transactions will range from standard contracts to complex, high dollar-value strategic alliances. The role includes participating in other Amazon.com legal projects as directed, including managing legal issues that arise in existing commercial relationships and handling pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries.
The successful candidate must be inquisitive, enthusiastic about technology, enjoy working hard and being continually challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations. Compensation based on experience and includes equity compensation.
Basic Qualifications
- JD admitted to at least 1 state bar
- Minimum 4+ years of experience (2 years in house preferred)
- Familiarity with IT/technology licensing
Preferred Qualifications
- In house experience at technology company
- A background in software licensing (including open source! ), web services/cloud computing or telecommunications is a plus
- Strong transactional background
