Lead the team that plays a key role in making the UW a welcoming and inclusive environment. As manager of the Disability Services Office (DSO), you will lead and supervise the DSO team; coordinate and consult with staff, faculty, students, and others; and advocate for accessibility for staff, faculty, students, and visitors. DSO has a broad mandate covering everything from employment and non-matriculating student related-accommodations to coordinating interpreter and real-time captioning services, disabled parking/transportation, procurement of adaptive/assistive equipment, and facilitating the request process for ADA facilities modifications.

Leading the Disability Services function successfully requires the ability to enable change from within a large, decentralized institution and develop creative solutions to complex and often sensitive concerns. Responsibilities are varied and progress is constant with this small team that positively impacts the lives of many in the UW community providing leadership, consultation, and training regarding disability issues and accommodations in the workplace. Every day you will have the opportunity to use your creative problem-solving, independent judgment, negotiation, and decision-making skills while dealing with issues with tact, flexibility, and discretion. Your thorough knowledge of federal and Washington state law, regulations, and rules governing employment and disability accommodation will be put to use as you consult with University leaders and supervisors on achieving employment, educational, programmatic, and physical access for individuals with disabilities.

The Disability Services Office is part of UW Human Resources, whose mission is to support UW faculty and staff in successfully meeting the goals of the University by providing high quality and responsive human resources support to foster an exceptional work environment that encourages, nurtures and recognizes the professional development of University employees. This position reports to the Associate Vice President for HR Administration and Information Systems. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Administration and Supervision Supervise, mentor and lead the work of Disability Services Office staff. Collaborate with Human Resources and other University resources in developing creative strategies to address disability and access issues.

Consult directly with academic or business units on a broad variety of issues related to disability accommodation. Coordinate the maintenance of DSO records and resources including databases, job analyses, and web and print information regarding services and access. Actively monitor trends in accommodation requests; prepare narrative and statistical reports regarding DSO services and activities. Lead process improvement initiatives and recommend service and program enhancements .

Disability Accommodation Service and Oversight In consultation with the ADA Coordinator, Assistant Attorneys General, and others, develop policy recommendations and make decisions involving issues of potential institutional liability. Consult with a variety of experts and resources such as health care specialists, legal advisors, equipment and adaptive technology experts, regarding accommodation needs and issues. Manage the departmental budget. Oversee and authorize expenditures for disability accommodations for employees, students, and faculty.

Approve capital expenditures coordination with the ADA Coordinator, Capital Resource Planning, and the Capital Projects Office. Consult with the ADA Coordinator and the Assistant Attorneys General in reviewing recommendations for staff and academic employee disability separations. Confer with staff throughout the University system regarding facility alteration requests pertaining to employee, academic staff
