Taitara Mahi – Marketing & Engagement Specialist
Permanent full time
Our Council is focused on improving the prosperity and happiness of our people, increasing the vibrancy and economic success of our district and doing our part to care for our whenua.
Never has this been more important than now, as large areas of our district face uncertainty and a long road to recovery following the devasting impacts of Cyclone Gabrielle.
To help us succeed in our vision, and to support the immediate needs of our community post-cyclone, we are seeking an experienced marketing and communications professional to join our high-performing team.
You’ll notice the word ‘engagement’ in the job title. That’s because we place great importance on working with our community and our strategic partners. So, in addition to being able to take ‘council speak’ and transform it into concise and clear communications, you will be adept at identifying key audiences, driving awareness, and crafting engagement opportunities that support our most vulnerable communities to share their views.
Working across a diverse range of business units you will be the ‘go to’ person for marketing, communications and engagement advice. You will be able to switch your focus between long-term ambitious strategic projects to address the challenges facing our district, to crafting simple and effective campaigns to support the day-to-day essential services our community relies on.
Reporting to the Communications & Engagement Lead, you will be a team player who brings a positive can-do influence and a sense of humour to the team. No day is the same so the ability to handle pressure and a variety of competing priorities is a must. Some abstract general knowledge to contribute to the daily Stuff quiz is desirable but not essential.
In return you will be supported by a strong, fun team including specialists across media, digital communications and graphic design.
The successful candidate will have:
- Tertiary level qualification in marketing or communications is desirable along with a minimum of five years’ experience working in a similar role
- Experience developing and leading high-quality marketing and communications strategies, preferably across large organisations
- Experience in creating and executing effective community engagement initiatives
- Ability to think strategically, spot opportunities and assess risk, and problem solve
- Strong communication skills, including preparation of print and digital communications
- Ability to develop strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Project management experience within the marketing and communications arena
- Media and issues management understanding
- Innovative and proactive approach to implementing best practice marketing & communications tools
- ‘Hands-on’ practitioner
- Experience in Public Information Management under Civil Defence structure or crisis communications is desirable
- Previous experience working with local communities, including but not limited to Iwi, hapū, whānau, Māori organisations and Māori communities would be desirable
- Public sector experience desirable
- An understanding and respect for their health, wellbeing and wellness
Situated in the heart of Ngāti Kahungunu, Hastings and wider Hawke’s Bay offer an amazing environment in which to live, work and play.
We are an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity. Are you keen to be a part of our journey?
