Balancing compliance, customer service and education of debtors are critical components to your success . The Revenue Agent is responsible for collecting debts owed to the Dep! artment of Labor and Industries in a professional and considerate manner. Youâll explain to debtors the origin of the debts owed to the department, as well as the legal recourse. Youâll need to have the ability to work with the diverse individuals who, at times, may be demeaning or hostile. You must comprehend and apply complex tax laws and rules, departmental policy, manuals and legal orders. Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to timely document actions are necessary. Before enforced collection or assessment procedures are completed, Revenue Agents may arrange for payment agreements. When efforts to reach payment agreements fail, Revenue Agents may file liens and levy salaries or wages, bank accounts or other assets. Revenue Agents are expected to make prompt and accurate decisions, which involves taking legal actions and completing work assignments with minimal supervision. They must maintain harmonious working relations with co-workers, t! he general public, the business community and other government! agencies. Some of what youâll do: · Manage a caseload of debtors; analyze debtor's financial situation, create a plan of action (POA) to collect, locate assets and determine validity of outstanding debt. You must have excellent multi-tasking and prioritizing skills. · Collect on multiple debt streams if needed, and issue all pertinent legal documents as required by law and department policy. · Read, understand and apply complex tax laws, rules, departmental policies, procedures, collection statewide performance standards, manuals and legal orders. · Negotiate payment plans; negotiations may require dealing with financial and/or legal representatives. Monitor the payment plan and take appropriate action if the debtor defaults. · Use various computer programs and advanced skip tracing techniques. · Document collection actions, contacts and attempted contacts with debtors, and maintain data integrity of computer programs through accurate and timely entries. · Prepare! documentary evidence for submission to the Assistant Attorney General for the attachment of warrant (lien judgment) extension or adversary proceedings. Provide testimony to the Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals when requested. · Work with diverse individuals who at times, may be demanding or hostile. Your accomplishment will look like this: Youâll understand, learn and apply collections policies, RCWâs and WACâs to collect debt for the department. Youâll collect from debtors in a diverse setting using various collection methods. Who Should Apply Revenue Agents with a minimum of one (1) year experience OR
A Bachelorâs degree involving a major study of business administration, accounting, public administration, economics, criminal justice, law or closely related field. AND One year of experience with collection of civil debts, business finance, or other directly related field.

What we are looking for: 1. Critical t! hinking skills, ability to comprehend laws, rules, manuals, legal orders, and financial transactions to take appropriate collection action. 2. Understand investigative techniques, business law and rules of evidence in criminal and civil law. 3. Experience in collection of civil debts. 4. Strong, clear verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including active listening, interviewing, and negotiation skills.
