Location: Port Orchard, Washington

Description: Kitsap County, WA is presently looking of VETERANS COURT MENTOR COORDINATOR - TEMPORARY right now, this occupation will be placed in Washington. Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for recruiting, training, organizing, assigning and supervising ! volunteer mentors for veterans who are enrolled in the Veterans Court Treatment track. Duties may also include community out reach to educate citizens and veterans of armed services regarding the need for mentors for veterans in recovery. Distinguishing Characteristics The Veterans Court Mentor Coordinator is a stand-alone temporary classification that is for a limited term for the SAMHSA grant budgeted for ten (10) hours a week for two years. Temporary positions are considered “Extra Help” and categorized as on-call, seasonal, or limited term. In compliance with the Kitsap County Extra Help Policy, employees in these positions may not work more hours than is stipulated in the policy and are not eligible for Kitsap County benefits, including but not limited to health or life insurance benefits, vacation, holiday or sick leave. The employment of extra-help employees is terminable at will, and either Kitsap County or the employee may terminate the employment for convenien! ce.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR PERFORMANCE OF THE ESSENTIA! L FUNCTIONS:
Required Education and Experience
Two years of experience in social work, court services, counseling or in a criminal justice environment; AND
Six months of experience working with individuals that are in recovery for substance abuse; OR
Any equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the applicant with the desired knowledge, skills and ability required to perform the work; Preferred Education, Experience or Other Qualifications
Experience working with military personnel and veterans assistance programs. Required Licenses, Certificates, Examinations/Tests and Other Requirements Please note : The incumbent is responsible for obtaining and maintaining all of the following required licenses, certifications and other requirements. Prior to employment, the successful candidate must :
Submit official transcripts from an accredited college or university or business school, if education is being used to meet the minimum ! qualifications.
Pass all job-related examinations/tests necessary to demonstrate required knowledge, skills and abilities, as determined by the hiring authority at time of job posting.
Pass a criminal history background check through law enforcement agencies.
Submit a copy of their State employment driving record abstract to verify their eligibility to drive for Kitsap County. At time of appointment, the successful candidate must :
Be able to fulfill all traveling requirements of this position and meet the qualifications and guidelines of the Fleet Risk Control Policies in the operation of a motor vehicle on County business. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of :
Community resources and services for veterans.
Available Federal veterans services, including accessibility and system navigation.
Criminal justice system, including court room protocol, court rules and procedures as related to treatment courts.
Volunteer recruitment! , selection, scheduling and supervision procedures.
Effective mento! ring and/or coaching techniques.
Effective public speaking.
Computer information systems related to area of assignment.
Database operations and report writing.
Microsoft products specifically Word and Excel.
Methods and techniques of research and analysis.
Pertinent Federal, State and local statutes, codes and regulations applicable to the Drug Court.
Modern office procedures.
Relevant treatment services and public systems regarding chemically dependent and/or mentally health participants and the support used by public clients including outpatient and inpatient treatment services. Skills and/or Ability to:
Appear for scheduled work and complete assigned tasks within a reasonable period of time.
Schedule and prioritize workflow to complete tasks and meet deadlines.
Work independently without regular direction, and troubleshoot problems in assigned area of responsibility.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships wi! th others using tact, courtesy and good judgment.
Work successfully within the context of a team as a team player
Maintain a professional demeanor under heavy workload and stressful situations.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to policy and procedures of the department.

Perform a variety of recordkeeping tasks quickly and accurately.
Operate a computer and utilize various computer applications specific to the department including databases, word processing, document imaging, spreadsheets, and web based systems for entering, retrieving and researching data and records.
Compile, prepare, and tabulate statistical data, reports, statements and summaries.
Physically perform assigned duties and essential functions of the position.
Effectively plan ! and organize volunteer resources and complete tasks within prescribed t! imeframes. Supervise, train and participate volunteers.
Motivate volunteer mentors to achieve good morale and maximum performance.
Read, interpret, and apply work-related laws, codes, ordinances and other regulations and guidelines governing work assignments.
Coordinate the activities of the Veterans Mentor Program.
Develop policies and procedures in coordination with the Drug Court team.
Work over 10 hours in a workweek as required.
Work outside of the normally scheduled work day (including non-sequential days and hours); weekdays, weekends, holidays and evening/night hours as determined by participant availability, work projects and special projects as assigned. Work is performed primarily in an office environment, but also requires driving to meetings.

Clear speaking and adequate hearing sufficient to communicate effectively and respond appropriately in-person and/or on the telephone;
Vision sufficient to read source materials, computer screen data and see detail.
Repetitive motions for computer use.
Requires exertion of force of 20 pounds occasionally,10 pounds frequently, and/or continuously to lift/carry/move objects, files/documents, and other materials. Incumbents may be exposed to :

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

Recruit, screen, select and retain volunteer veterans to serve as mentors for treatment court participant. Sustain and evolve the Veterans Mentoring Program.
Schedule initial and ongoing training for volunteer candidates selected to mentor veterans in treatment and recovery. Develop specialized training projects, as necessary.
Organize, coordinate and supervise individual mentor assignments and related groups and mentoring activities.
Schedule the appearance of volunteer mentors at pertinent Treatment Track hearings when determined by the Adult Drug Court judge.
Educate the community on veterans court goals, activities and needs, and solicit additional community services and support that further advance veterans participants recovery.
Provide outreach to post-treatment court veterans and coordinate veterans court alumni activities that promote ongoing sobriety/recovery. Other Job Duties :
