The Attorney General's Office (AGO) serves m! ore than 230 state agencies, boards, commissions, colleges and universities, as well as the Legislature and the Governor. The Office is comprised of over 500 attorneys and 700 professional staff.

The Labor and Industries Division of the Attorney General’s Office has an opening for a permanent, full time Office Assistant 3. This position is located in Tacoma.

The Tacoma Division is comprised of 37 attorneys and 42 professional staff. The division is the “face of the AGO” in communities in Pierce and Kitsap counties. This division provides a wide variety of legal services for a number of different client agencies, including the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Department of Labor & Industries (L&I), Employment Security Department (ESD), Department of Licensing (DOL), and Department of E! arly Learning (DEL). Employees in the Tacoma office also handl! e consumer protection and tort matters.

Attorneys defend L&I orders before the Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals and state courts that are appealed by injured workers who are seeking benefits or additional benefits. To a lesser degree, they also defend L&I orders that assert worker fraud, as well as orders that are appealed by employers who challenge the amount assessed for their workers’ compensation premiums, or penalties assessed for violations of WISHA standards. Attorneys also represent L&I before the Office of Administrative Hearings and state courts on contractor and electrical citations, wage and hour citations, prevailing wage citations, employment standards matters, and WISHA discrimination cases, as well as provide client advice on these matters.

Duties:
Under the supervision of the Labor and Industries Legal Assistant 3, provides clerical support to the Tacoma AGO/LNI Division, to include clerical support to the paralegals in t! he LNI Division.

Main responsibilities include opening and date stamping all incoming mail for the LNI division; docketing mail for the paralegal staff as well as processing requests for medical records, Department records and ESD records concerning injured workers; opening new files, closing and archiving files; receiving all transferred files from other Division and checking files for critical events.

This position works in a team environment to support the Attorney General’s mission to provide professional, ethical, and independent legal services to the State of Washington and its citizens.

Qualifications:
High School graduation or equivalent plus two years clerical experience.
In addition, the most competitive applicants will have experience working in a legal setting or law office.
