University of Washington Bothell, has an outstanding and challenging opportunity for a Director of Auxiliary Services. We are seeking a dynamic, creative and accomplished professional with entrepreneurial experience to lead our campus’ auxiliary enterprise in the next phase of its development. This individual will report to the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Planning and is responsible for directing the exp! anded development, operations, facilities and capital needs of! the emerging auxiliary services programs for UW Bothell, and some programs in cooperation with and on behalf of Cascadia Community College (CCC).

CCC is co-located on the same campus and shares some auxiliary services directed by this position. Auxiliary Services supports our campus learning community by providing services including Student Housing, Commuter Services (Transportation and Parking), Food Services, Facilities Use and Events, Vending and the projected addition of Conference Services. The director is responsible for ensuring all auxiliary enterprises are functioning as successful, self-sustaining services, that they generate sufficient funds to meet current operating, maintenance, and capital needs to support a rapidly growing campus and develop proposals to grow the enterprise, further enhance quality and implement marketing plans to achieve future revenue goals. The selected candidate will work daily with a team of committed professionals focused on a! bove-the-line accountability and results!

We are looking for dedicated professionals interested in continuing our cultivation of the latest trends in collegiate retail, residential, and campus auxiliary services; promoting and shaping sound sustainable business practices; and help us prepare for imminent and planned growth with new, innovative and remodeled facilities coming on-line over the next few years. The Director of Auxiliary Services will be responsible for directing the activities and personnel related to a variety of enterprises. Each of these programs has different operating, maintenance, facilities, and financial profiles related to cash flow, capital requirements, and risk. All are expected to grow with the campus requiring ongoing planning, marketing, researching and applying best practices.

This position will involve working closely with a financial management staff to develop financial pro forma, operations and business plans, and to closel! y track financial performance to minimize institutional risk and maximi! ze overall profitability. The position requires collaboration and consolidation of financial data and business rules with CCC for programs and services that are jointly operated. It will require ongoing collaboration with CCC senior staff to determine the scope and general guidelines for operating expanded consolidated campus auxiliary services; with student leaders, Student and Residential Life, Budget and Fiscal Services, Facilities Services, Campus Safety, and parallel units of CCC, UW Seattle managers, financial and treasury staff. Duties and Responsibilities Administration, Management, and Supervision • Provide direction and management of UW Bothell's auxiliary services (Student Housing, Food Service, Vending, Events Planning, Facilities Use, Commuter Services) and direct their operations on a financially self-sustaining basis; forecast, monitor, and control revenue and expenditures.

• Responsible for the activities of 15 FTE professional and classif! ied positions, and 32 temporary hourly student and non-student positions. Includes the authority to hire and conduct performance evaluations. • Develop and maintain business plans and annual budgets for each auxiliary operation. • Direct and evaluate all operations, including current practices, rates, advertising, and staffing models and make changes as needed.

• Coordinate and collaborate with CCC and seek input from student, faculty and staff organizations. • Solve problems, make decisions, and interpret policies, and establish procedures to facilitate auxiliary operations. • In coordination and collaboration with Student and Residential Life, ASUWB and other student groups, to facilitate an ongoing dialogue on the type and level of student life amenities provided on campus. • Direct the development and execution of communication plans with the campus community regarding services offered and rates charged.

Keep the campus co! mmunity involved and aware of auxiliary service improvements. • Fa! cilitate and track implementation of policies, procedures and internal controls. Coordinate communications and identify and research implications of changes. • Interpret WAC rules related to facility use, housing, and commuter services and recommend changes when and where appropriate.

Coordinate WAC changes through WAC revision process and the UW Code Reviser’s Office. • Direct the billing and receivables processes to maximize revenues in accordance with University policy to assure control over cash and accounts receivable. Strategic Planning and Decision Support • Direct the development of a long-range strategic vision for UWB auxiliary services. • Facilitate the integration of planning, budgeting, and institutional decision-making for Auxiliary Services and related student amenities.

• Direct and develop additional and alternative services to accommodate campus growth. • Develop and oversee the analytical capabilities t! o inform operational and financial decisions. • Create business plans and alternatives. • Perform managerial and financial analysis.

• Benchmarking and development of performance measures. • Cost and revenue forecasting; 5 and 10 year plans. • Support campus leadership in the expansion of student and general campus amenities and associated revenue to support them. • Review and analyze business plans and pro forma related to the growth of auxiliary services and student life amenities, including the potential acquisition of additional facilities both adjacent to the existing campus and in strategic new locations.

• Collaborate with Chancellor and Vice Chancellor of UWB, and President and Vice President of CCC to develop strategic and business plans for consolidating select auxiliaries with CCC. • Develop and manage operational, administrative, and fiscal policies and procedures. Strategic Projects and Initiatives â€Â! ¢ Direct the development of a 5 year housing plan and associated food s! ervice/meal plan. • Direct the development of a long-term food service plan that integrates current food and beverage facilities with planning, construction, and operation of the Student Activity Center and UWB Annex.

• With assistance from UW Seattle Real Estate Office, consider additional leased housing space consistent with UW Bothell’s 5 year facilities plan. • Evaluate options for housing expansion including building housing on campus and feasibility of public-private partnerships. Program Development • Direct the development and implementation of operational policies and procedures for each service; sales goals for long term revenue sustainability of each service; marketing and communication plans for both internal and external customers. • Direct the development and implementation of plans for the improved integration of auxiliary services with other university administrative services and with CCC when appropriate.

â€! ¢ Direct the development and implementation of recommendations for expansion or introduction of new services that accommodate campus growth. • Direct the development of a long-range strategic vision for each auxiliary enterprise. • Direct the development, enhancement and maintenance of website(s) for auxiliary services in collaboration with the campus web publisher. Consult & Collaborate • Consult and collaborate regularly with Residential Life regarding the operation of student housing.

• Convene and chair advisory committee(s); prepare agenda, minutes and related materials to facilitate an ongoing dialogue on the type and level of services provided on campus. • Consult and collaborate with CCC in the development of business plans, budgets, staffing plans, rate setting and policies that involve the North Creek Events Center, Parking and Transportation Services. • Establish contacts with community based customers for services related ! to the North Creek Events Center and other joint facilities. • Con! sult with UW Attorney General’s Office, UW Real Estate Office, and UW Treasurer’s Office, UW Housing and Food Service, and other key UW Seattle departments as needed.

• Represent UWB on the City of Bothell Campus Transportation Committee. • Other duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor and Chancellor. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management or equivalent. A minimum of six years of supervisory/leadership experience in auxiliary services operations and financial management or a closely related field, and a track record of fostering diversity in the workplace and creating a positive work environment supportive of professional development.

Be resourceful and have a high degree of flexibility as well as problem solving and strategic planning ability. Demonstrated experience in strategic visioning. Strong skills in financial management and planning and operations analysis. Equivalent education! /experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Desired: Pertinent management experience in the food services or hospitality industries or managing auxiliary enterprises in higher education. Master’s degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Public Administration, Leadership, or equivalent. Condition of Employment: Requires typical hours beyond the normal workday. Attendance at appointments and meetings in the local community.
