Microsoftâs Corporate Standards Group in the Law and Corporate Affairs Division is a multi-disciplinary group that includes lawyers, engineers, and policy experts. The Corporate Standards Group focuses on helping Microsoft succeed in industry standards engagements, and is looking for a standards attorney to join its legal team.
As a legal advisor to Microsoftâs business units on standards matters, your responsibilities will include:
oProviding primary legal support for standards-related topics, including patent, copyright, corporate governance, antitrust, and risk management.
oFacilitating Microsoftâs participation in standard bodies, including forming and joining standards organizations, negotiating intellectual property policies, and providing both legal and business analysis to internal legal and product groups.
oBeing a leader for Microsoft in the standards legal community.
oWorking with the standards ecosystem to support Microsoftâs business, legal, technical, and policy goals.
oEducating Microsoftâs internal standards community.
oWorking effectively with a wide range of people, including lawyers, engineers, policy and governance experts, and senior executives.
Candidates should have:
oA working knowledge of standards, patent, copyright, antitrust, software licensing, and corporate law.
oExperience with intellectual property and governance issues related to participation in standards bodies. Strong negotiation and diplomatic skills, with expertise in multi-party negotiations.
oAbility to collaborate effectively across groups, including the ability to influence without formal authority.
oExcellent communication and drafting skills.
oAn understanding of information technology and interoperability.
oA keen business sense, the skills to find creative solutions to legal issues, and the ability to effectively balance legal risks against business interests.
oA bias for action and driving client-focused results.
oA J.D. with a minimum of 8 years as a practicing attorney.
