Microsoft Legal and Corporate Affairs (LCA) is looking for a senior paralegal to help provide legal support for Microsoft’s Windows Azure Group (WAG). WAG is the team developing our enterprise cloud computing platform, a key strategic asset for Microsoft, in its goal of becoming one of the world’s largest cloud computing technology companies. Windows Azure is Microsoft’s public cloud computing platform for building, deploying and managing applications and services through its global network of datacenters. It provides both platform as a service (PaaS) and infrastructure as a service (IaaS) for customers to run both Microsoft and third party software.
This senior paralegal will provide day-to-day counseling for the WAG team. These include technology transactions, collaborations with! other companies, and counseling on intellectual property, ope! n source, antitrust, privacy, and other regulatory and commercial issues. In effect, this senior paralegal will help identify and “clear†the range of legal issues associated with existing and new Windows Azure technologies.
This senior paralegal will work closely with the attorneys supporting WAG, and as part of the larger team of legal professionals supporting the Server & Tools Business. This person will also work closely with the legal teams for other product groups that utilize Windows Azure as their cloud computing infrastructure. This position will be based in Redmond, Washington.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing creative and proactive counseling and training on a broad range of legal, business, and policy issues for clients engaged in new product and services development.
- Drafting and negotiating agreements in support of these activities.
- High level of client interaction to understand and advise! on enterprise cloud computing technologies.
- Partnering with clients and colleagues to develop programmatic approaches to handling frequent issues in new product and services development.
- B.A./B.S. degree
- 10+ years of experience as a transactional paralegal
- They should have experience with intellectual property issues and drafting and negotiating basic technology agreements.
- Familiarity with open source, software licensing, and privacy law is a plus.
- They must have a genuine passion for technology, and an interest and aptitude for learning about cutting edge new technologies.
- They will need to collaborate well with colleagues, and be effective in managing projects and working across group boundaries to drive results for their clients and the company.
- They must possess a strong client service focus and the ability to work efficiently, prioritize task! s, meet demanding deadlines, and manage multi-dimensional projects.
- They will need to be flexible in adjusting to workload fluctuations.
- They must have excellent analytic, oral and written communication skills.
