The Office is comprised of over 500 attorneys and 700 professional staff.
The Attorney General’s Office is recruiting for a permanent full time Paralegal 1 in the Agriculture and Health Division. This position is located in Tumwater.
The Agriculture and Health Division provides legal advice and litigation services to the Department of Health and its associated boards and commissions; the State Board of Health; the Department of Agriculture; 24 Commodity Commissions; the Department of Commerce; Life Sciences Discovery Fund; Northwest Interstate Compact on Low-Level Radioactive Waste Management; Hanford Area Economic Investment Fund; and the Life Sciences Discovery Fund.

This position performs substantive paralegal work that, absent a paralegal, would be performed by an attorney, including:
Calculating of court and administrative litigations deadlines Performing searches, reviewing, organizing and coordinating public record request responses with AGO’s Public Records and Constituent Correspondence Unit Assisting with discovery Under the direction of the litigating attorney, assist with witness preparation Organizing the evidence for hearings and trials On occasion, attending and assisting at hearings and trials when needed
This position serves as the lead Agriculture and Health Division Critical Events Reader and the division’s primary PRR Coordinator, and is responsible for complying with the AGO office-wi! de critical events policy, public records policies, and the AHD business rules to ensure that all critical deadlines are met and public records responses from this division are accurately prepared and provided to the AGO’s Public Records and Constituent Correspondence Unit.
Qualifications:
Option 1:
Two years' experience as a paralegal or legal assistant. (Please note that the term “legal assistant†refers to work performed at the paralegal level, not the legal secretarial level.â€
Option 2:
Graduation from an accredited two-year paralegal or legal assistant course.
Option 3:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college and completion of a nine-month legal assistant program or paralegal program or one year paralegal or legal assistant experience.
Option 4:
Three years' experience as a legal secretary and 30 quarter or equivalent semester hours in nonsecretarial legal courses! which are normally part of a paralegal or legal assistant course at a ! college or community college
