Amazon’s Legal Department is looking for a seasoned senior counsel with experience in corporate compliance programs and internal investigations to lead its global legal! compliance and training program.
Responsibilities:
As lead compliance counsel, you will have several key roles. You will have overall ownership of the design and administration of Amazon’s legal compliance and training program. This includes leading our annual risk assessment and compliance goal setting process; working with attorneys and business leaders throughout the organization to monitor, track, and help manage our compliance and training goals; and coordinating with the company’s Risk Management, Internal Audit, HR, and Finance teams, both in the U.S. and overseas. You will also monitor, supervise, and independently conduct internal investigations of fraud allegations and other potential legal and regulatory issues. And you will work directly with the General Counsel and the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors to report on the activities, metrics, status, and accomplishments of the program.
The position will report to the Assoc! iate General Counsel, Compliance and Customer Trust.
! Basic Qualifications
- Eight or more years of legal experience, including at least 3 years regulatory or compliance experience with corporations, law firms, or government agencies.
- At least three years of law firm experience is required. In-house experience at a technology or internet company is a plus but is not required.
- J.D. degree and membership in good standing in at least one state bar is required.
- Hands-on project management experience, including the ability to manage a large number and variety of mission-critical projects, working independently and often in ambiguous environments;
- Sound and practical business judgment as well as common sense;
- Familiarity with Internet, retail, software and/or media industries and the legal and regulatory environment in which they operate;
- A team player and consensus builder with great people skills and a good sense of h! umor who can effectively and efficiently collaborate and build relationships with attorneys and business clients at all levels throughout the organization;
- Highest standards of ethics and professional integrity;
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, as well as demonstrated proficiency in working closely with and advising senior executives of an organization; and
- Experience in crisis management and response.
