Background and-or Security In! vestigation required DUTIES:
This position is located in the Imaging/Radiology Service at the Spokane VA Medical Center, Spokane WA, with responsibilities of performing Computed Tomography (CT) examination with and/or without the use of contrast materials. These exams will consist of the head, neck, spine, thorax, abdomen, extremities and vessels. Also will perform a wide variety of routine x-ray procedures including interventional procedures when needed. Additional duties include but may not be limited to the following: scheduling exams, determining requirements for non-standard exams, performing neuroangiography, performing peripheral and visceral angiography of the abdominal system and extemities, performing myelography of the complete spine, using surgical sterile techniques, preparing contrasts materials, performing reconstructions of CT and angiographic studies when requested, maintaining records and files.

Work Schedule: INTERMITTENT, various ! hours and days.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:BASIC REQUIR! EMENTS:

  • Citizenship. You must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Certificate. You must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R). A copy must be submitted with your application package.
***Computed Tomography (CT) certification is desired***

  • Experience or Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program. Evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). A copy must be submitted with your application package.
  • English Language Proficiency. Diagnostic Radiologic Technologists must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience: Experience in Computerized Tomography prefered.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
In addition to the basic requirements for appointment, the following criteria will be used when determining the

appropriate grade assignment:
GS-05:
Experience or Education. None beyond the basic requirements. Education must be directly related to Computed Tomography.

GS-06:
Experience. At least 1 year of experience at the next lower grade level that demonstrates the core competencies needed to provide general radiologic technology services in a therapeutic setting. Experience must be directly related to Computed Tomography.
OR
Education. The successful completion of a 4-year baccalaureate degree program in radiography or other directly related field to diagnostic radiology/imaging. Degree must be directly related to Computed Tomography.

In addition, you will be rated on the followin! g Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSA's) based ! on your application for this position.
KSA 1 - Knowledge of basic technique standards for minimum radiographic exposure.
KSA 2 - Knowledge of anatomy and positioning.
KSA 3 - Knowledge of all patient safety procedures.
KSA 4 - Knowledge of radiographic producing equipment.
KSA 5 - Ability to learn basic computer functions.

GS-07:
Experience. At least 1 year of experience at the next lower grade level that demonstrates the core competencies needed to provide general radiologic technology services in a therapeutic setting and/or in a specialized area. Experience must be directly related to Computed Tomography.
OR
Education. The successful completion of 1 full academic year of graduate education leading to a degree program in radiography or other directly related field to diagnostic radiology/imaging. Must be related to Computed Tomography.

Certification. Certification by ARRT as a general radiologic technologist is requ! ired. In addition, Computed Tomography (CT) is highly desirable.

In addition, you will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAO's) based on your application for this position.
KSA 1 - Knowledge of cross sectional human anatomy and its application in spiral, and/or multi-slice computer tomography, inclusive of 3-D reconstruction scans, including drainages, biopsies and peripheral vascular examinations.
KSA 2 - Knowledge and training in the location, appearance and function of the various major and minor systems susceptible to radiological illumination.
KSA 3 - Knowledge of the function of computed radiography, phosphor cassettes and computed radiography readers.
KSA 4 - Knowledge of PACS systems, CDROMS and basic computer skills.

GS-08:
Experience. At least 1 year of experience at the next lower grade level that demonstrates the core competencies needed to provide general radiologic te! chnology services in a therapeutic setting and/or in a specialized area! . Experience must be directly related to Computed Tomography.

Certification. Certification by ARRT as a general radiologic technologist is required. In addition, Computed Tomography (CT) is highly desirable.

In addition, you will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAO's) based on your application for this position.
KSA 1 - Ability to interpret the examination request accurately.
KSA 2 - Ability to understand the functioning and inter-relationship of the various organs.
KSA 3 - Ability to use the methods and techniques which will identify organs appearing on the digital display monitor or on film and the various stages of the examination to judge the acceptability of the image and/or scan for diagnostic use and to emphasize the aspects of particular interest to the physician.
KSA 4 - Ability to monitor patient's physiologic changes during the procedure and keep the radiologist informed.
KSA! 5 - Skill in using tact, diplomacy and courtesy in dealings with the customer base, patients, staff, family visitors and volunteers.
KSA 6 - Knowledge of patient's clinical record, diagnosis and laboratory results.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Bending, pushing, pulling, reaching and occasional kneeling, crawling and squatting; lifting, carrying and manipulation of equipment; patient assistance and positioning; walking and prolonged standing; the ability to read written orders, computer screens, patient records and equipment controls; the ability to communicate with patients, physicians and coworkers. Near visual acuity to assess patient's physical condition when performing exams and evaluating images for diagnostic quality. Must be able to speak and hear to communicate with patients.
