Staff Legal - Senior Trial Attorney - Seattle

We are looking for an experienced Senior Trial Attorney to work in our Staff Legal Office in Seattle, WA. This high performing law office offers legal expertise in trial and appellate practice in state and federal courts, with extensive experience in complex litigation, including: products liability, construction litigation, construction defect employment litigation, negligent security, trucking and other commercial motor vehicle torts, agent and broker malpractice, and pr! ofessional liability (medical, legal, accountant, insurance ag! ents and engineers).
The law office handles all types of general insurance defense litigation, such as automobile torts, premises liability, property damage, and sexual harassment. This is an exciting opportunity to work for a stable and well respected organization and represent its insureds in all phases of litigation for our most complex cases.
The ideal candidate will have extensive trial experience to add to the law office's trial capabilities. and will perform the most complex trial work within the office. This accomplished attorney will have tried numerous cases to verdict, which will include trying large exposure cases including catastrophic injury cases to verdict in the past five years. In addition to courtroom experience, the candidate will be able to engage in the practice of law, at all times in compliance with the ethical standards as established by the national/local area of practice.
He/She will perform duties encompassing all aspec! ts of insurance defense, including initial investigation and legal analysis and advice, preparing and filing legal pleadings and documents, performing legal research, preparing for and conducting pre-trial discovery, preparing for and aggressively handling hearings and trials, and conducting post-trial activities where appropriate. We want a demonstrated ability to effectively analyze cases and a track record of proven trial results.
Viewed as senior resource within Staff Legal. Recognized as technical consultant and advisor both within and outside the company. Assists in providing technical guidance to lower level attorneys and claims. The ability to work independently and without substantial supervision is valued.
Job Qualifications
Qualified candidates will possess at least EIGHT to TEN years of litigation and courtroom experience, including recent jury trial experience. Substantial experience in both State and Federal courts.

1. JD Degree
2. Active member of the Washing! ton state bar required (Oregon, Idaho, Alaska is a plus!)
3. Litigation experience and strong trial experience is a MUST. Experience should be directly related to insurance industry claims and general commercial litigation, including but not limited to: wrongful death, commercial motor vehicle torts, products and premises liability, personal injury, employment liability.
4. Several insurance defense jury trials tried to conclusion - 1st chair jury trial experience is a must!
5. Ability to budget costs and calculate exposure for clients.
6. Demonstrates effective negotiating skills.
7. Understands and follows claims handling guidelines for each business unit.
8. Must be well organized with good analytical skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, proactive approach to file handling and caseloads, and able to work independently as well as within a team environment.
9. Efficient work habits, knowledge of billables and diary review wit! h substantive and procedural legal knowledge.
10. PC literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, Lotus Notes, and significant knowledge of Lexis or Westlaw.
11. Staff counsel experience is beneficial. An understanding of the staff counsel function and role in overall business is ideal.
