has engaged Houser Martin Morris! on an exclusive basis to recruit a talented attorney to manage its litigation. The successful candidate in this Director level position will be responsible for managing all litigation and other disputes involving the company and for developing strategies and procedure regarding the prevention, evaluation, defense/prosecution and resolution of such disputes. S/he will assist in the strategic planning and management of the companyâs Legal Department as directed by the General Counsel and provide legal advice and counsel to all levels of company leadership. The position may be located in
Seattle, Portland (headquarters) or Salt Lake City
, whichever the candidate prefers.
Responsibilities:
Analyze disputed cases, determine the legal position of the organization, respond to threatening or demand letters and when appropriate.
Negotiate with attorneys representing claimants within the authority limits set by General Counsel or Chi! ef Legal Officer.
Manage disputes, including threaten! ed or actual litigation and complex litigation.
Engage and manage outside counsel to defend or prosecute litigation on behalf of the organization.
Negotiate compromise settlements within the authority limits set by General Counsel or Chief Legal Officer.
Accountable for management of attorneys, paralegals, and other staff as directed by General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer.
Provide strategic advice and counsel to General Counsel, senior management, and organizationâs business areas regarding a wide range of legal matters.
Act as legal contact for external stakeholders, regulators, and legislators as directed by General Counsel or Chief Legal Officer.
Review and/or draft legal documents.
Manage complex legal matters or projects.
Participate as a meaningful member of the Legal Department leadership team.
May also be asked to assume additional responsibilities, such as records management or e! xternal audits and investigations.
Requirements:
Significant litigation experience, including management of outside counsel, management of a diverse and sizable caseload.
Knowledge of health insurance laws, regulations and compliance standards. Although preference may be give to candidates who have health insurance or health related litigation experience from a providersâ point of view, Cambia will also consider candidates who have litigation experience in a regulated industry related to consumer or commercial litigation.
General knowledge of corporate and commercial law. Demonstrated experience developing legal strategies, policies and procedures.
Experience managing litigation personnel or comparable teams.
Demonstrated leadership and team building skills.
Excellent written and verbal presentation skills.
Demonstrated initiative and self-starter.
Strong interpersonal skills, including the! ability to communicate effectively and develop and maintain strong int! erpersonal relationships at all levels throughout the organization.
The Director, Litigation Management will be a graduate of an accredited law school with a strong academic record, and a minimum of 15 years of experience as an attorney in corporate, government or law firm with demonstrated expertise in practice area or equivalent experience.
Required Licenses, Certifications, Registration, Etc.
Licensed to practice law in at least one state. Licensed to practice law in the state where the position is based, or the ability to become licensed in that state in a reasonable period of time, which may include admission as an authorized in-house counsel if such certification is available.
