Fisheries Technical Assistant

Description: Muckleshoot Indian Tribe is looking of Fisheries Technical Assistant right now, this position will be dwelled in Washington. More details about this position opportunity kindly see the descriptions. Under supervision, performs technical work rearing Chinook salmon at the Palmer Hatchery. The primary assigned worksite is Palmer Hatchery with other duties performed at the Keta Creek Comple! x (in support of the Palmer project).
MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collects data for the fish hatchery operations including assisting in sampling fish for size.
Performs water quality data collection.
Handles live fish (juveniles) in a safe manner.
Applies tags to fish.
Feeds fish, collects mortalities, and maintains facilities.
Assists and coordinates with other hatchery staff as directed.
Operates row boats for pond maintenance and mortality collections.
Drives Tribal vehicles supporting the Palmer project.
Works under adverse (difficult) conditions.
Works outdoors in all weather conditions. Weekends and holiday work may be required.
Because of the Tribeâs commitment to community service and the well being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.
ED! UCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION:
Any co! mbination of education and experience to graduation from high school and two (2) years of related experience in fisheries work.
Special Requirements : Ability to swim and completion of any safety training required by the Tribe during employment. Candidate must have reliable transportation.
SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION:
Basic math skills
Knowledge of pacific salmon culture
Fishing net (dip-net) skills
Oral and written communications skills
Ability to operate a personal computer and applicable software
Ability to follow written and oral instructions and/or training
Ability to complete tasks independently
Ability/Skill in gathering and compiling data
Ability to establish effective working relationships with diverse groups and individuals
Ability to swim
Ability to report to work in a timely manner and maintain strong attendance
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The! working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this class. Demands can range from sedentary to moderate â" when there is walking, climbing stairs/ladders, reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting â" to rigorous. In the later case, the employee must frequently lift/carry objects up to 80 pounds and occasionally push/pull objects up to 100 pounds. Long daily requirements of carrying equipment/material and/or sitting/standing may be required. The employee must be able to see clearly at a distance, in order to judge how far away an object is, or which of several objects is closer or farther away. Some work is performed in an office setting with adequate lighting, heating and ventilation. The majority of the work is performed in the field. Field work involves exposures to all types of weather, insects, slippery rocks/trails, irregular terrain, or cold water temperatures. W! ork aboard boats may be required. In addition, the employee may be occa! sionally exposed to hazardous equipment such as machinery, or boats, as well as, moderate to loud noise levels, exposed to hazardous substances, materials and/or equipment.
Licenses or Certifications Required:
A valid Washington State driverâs license is required at time of appointment and at all times during employment.
