Microsoft’s legal team for the Windows Division is looking for a senior attorney to support the Windows Development group.

This attorney will provide day-to-day counseling to the teams that make Windows on the legal issues they confront. These include intellectual property transactions; counseling on the handling of customer data and other privacy and security related matters; commercial contract negotiation and interpretation; as well as antitrust, patent, trademark & copyright issues. A desire and ability to learn the workings of software technology is a must for this position.

This lawyer will work as part of the team of legal professionals supporting Windows Development and will work closely with the legal teams from other product groups and sales channels as well as legal specialists. In addition to top notch legal skills, this lawyer must have an ability to manage projects and collaborate across group boundaries to drive results for the Company. The position will report to the Assistant General Counsel for Windows Development and will be located in Redmond, Washington.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Counseling and advising clients on a broad range of complex legal, business, and strategic issues.
• Driving advice and decisions across groups with diverse business objectives.
• Understanding highly complex technological areas.

Successful candidates must have a J.D. from an ABA accredited law school, excellent academic credentials, and at least 7 years’ experience as a practicing attorney. They should have experience drafting and negotiating technology agreements. Experience with antitrust, intellectual property and/or privacy law is a plus. They must possess a strong client service focus and the ability to work efficiently, prioritize workflow, meet demanding deadlines, and manage multi-dimensional projects. They must also have excellent analytic, oral and written communication skills.
