Primary Duties This position supports the Department’s mission to protect and improve the health of people in Washington State by providing professional and technical expertise in the delivery of quality legal services to HSQA and other entities. This position contributes to the mission by improving patient safety through facilities and health care professional regulatory processes. As part of a team in HSQA, improves timeliness of cases and applies appropriate sanctions for misconduct. This position works to ensure that performance measures are met regarding the timeliness of health care professional cases, and that final decisions comply with sanction guidelines.

Specific duties include:
Maintaining legal tracking system for all documentation in the Office of Legal Services Assists Attorney General’s Office with case support and data Responds to, drafts and coordinates responses to office correspondence and inquiries

Required Qualifications One (1) or more years (full-time equivalency) of legal secretarial experience working for an attorney, Administrative Law Judge, Industrial Appeal Judge, review judge, or equivalent.

OR Five (5) or more years (full-time equivalency) of experience in a clerical position within a professional office setting.

AND One (1) or more years of intermediate-level experience using MS Word to create, format, and edit tables, columns, and charts; import data and sort table data; insert and format sections, create headers and footers, and work with pictures and draw objects. One (1) or more years of intermediate-level experience using MS Excel or other spreadsheet software to create and manipulate large or complex spreadsheets, use complex mathematical formulas to calculate data, and link worksheets; import data from other sources, filter lists, and create and format charts and graphs. One (1) or more years of experience accurately entering data into database software or web-based database applications.

Desired Qualifications One (1) or more years of college-level coursework (45 total quarter credit hours or equivalency in semester hours), with at least 10 quarter credit hours or equivalent in Legal Secretarial courses.

Conditions of Employment Willing and able to work indoors, at a desk the majority of an 8-hour workday, in an open office environment with possible conversation and other noise distractions, with or without an accommodation. Willing and able to work the core business hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with a scheduled lunch break. Willing and able to occasionally work in excess of 40 hours per week and/or adjust normally scheduled hours, which may include evenings and weekends, to meet program needs and critical deadlines. Willing and able to occasionally travel statewide, to meet the needs of the program. Willing and able to have frequent contact with the public and other interested parties to Health Systems Quality Assurance legal issues, some of which may be upset or impatient. Willing and able to assist with emergency response activities as assigned during a public health emergency.
