Bing Local Search Relevance team is looking for an accomplished technical leader to join us in tackling the problem of analyzing & understanding user intent, building relevance model, defining relevance metrics, building online/offline measurement platform and data warehousing solutions. With millions of possible business, place and address local search queries, how do you evaluate the relevance of their search results? How do you tel! l whether a newly added feature has improved the overall relev! ance or impacted certain type of hotel queries? How do you provide the metrics data to help driving executive decisions on the direction of Bing Local Search? How do you build a system that combines the best of machine learning and human judgment? These are some of the hardest problems in the online service industry and need you to build a cohesive set of measurement approaches, services & framework to help solving. This requires understanding Search and Bing’s technology stack end-to-end; developing deep expertise in web-scale distributed processing, machine learning, analytics, metadata management and crowd-sourcing; partnering with multiple engineering and research teams to make the most of advances in platform & research.
You will have the unique opportunities to grow your career and learn skills in all of the following areas:
- Data mining and machine learning technologies to model user intent and search result relevance
- Defining Met! rics, building Measurement platform, and having a significant impact on Bing Local Search Relevance
- Large scale data processing and analysis with SQL, Cosmos, Aether, etc.

- Large scale crowd sourcing to manage hundreds of human judges to harvest the accurate feedbacks about Local Search result relevance
We expect candidates to have a range of skills, typically including:
- 5+ years of software development
- Practical knowledge of modern C#, SQL and equivalent programming skills
- Strong algorithmic, data design, documentation and coding abilities
- Experience in information retrieval, machine leaning, data mining, or statistics preferred
- A BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Math or EE; PhD a plus
