The Attorney General's Office (AGO) serves more than 230 st! ate agencies, boards, commissions, colleges and universities, as well as the Legislature and the Governor. The mission of the Office is to deliver the highest quality professional legal services to officials, agencies, and citizens of the state of Washington. The Office is comprised of over 500 attorneys and 700 professional staff.
The Torts Division has an opening for an AGO Senior Investigator/Analyst. This position is located in Seattle
The Torts Division defends tort claims and lawsuits against all state agencies, officers and employees. The majority of cases are based on actions brought under theories of liability for state actions such as highway design, release of inmates, injuries on state property, medical malpractice, employment, child care and custody, auto accidents, maritime injuries, false arrests and unreasonable force. Tort attorneys also provide legal and risk management advice to the Office of Financial Management and state agencies on to! rt matters.
Duties:
This position has been! designated at the Senior Investigator level by the Torts Division Chief. The incumbent shall independently conduct comprehensive investigations and analysis of the issues concerning complex, technical and multi-issue tort claims, potential claims, and lawsuits filed in state and federal courts involving large potential damage awards against the State and any of its subordinate agencies.
Position requirements are to conduct investigations of a high profile, sensitive nature; will conduct formal presentations on tort-related topics at the request of client agencies; and will take a lead role in organizational improvement initiatives, including those pertaining to electronic discovery.
In addition, as part of a trial team the incumbent will cooperate in the completion of all discovery. They will prepare proposed responses to formal discovery from plaintiff and codefendant attorneys, including designation of CR 30(B)(6) deponents, interrogatories, and request! s for production within court-imposed timelines.
Qualifications:
Positions require a Bachelorâs degree and ten years of experience conducting investigations, which include the authority to independently plan and conduct investigations in civil or criminal cases. Additional qualifying investigative experience, may substitute year for year for education.
OR
Five yearsâ experience as an AGO Investigator/Analyst.
The best qualified applicants will also possess the following preferred qualifications:
- Knowledge of the process of documentary and electronic discovery in litigation, to include responding to interrogatories and requests for production.
- Basic understanding of computer forensics and how computers manage data storage. Knowledge of software, Forensic Toolkit (FTK) and Encase is desirable.
- Ability to operate a digital camera and accompanying software.
