Our Values are: Excellence in Service Respect Collaboration and Partnership Diversity Accountability The Department of Social and Health Services, Economic Services Administration (ESA), Community Services Division (CSD) is recruiting for one (1) permanent Social Services Specialist 2 position located within the Puyallup CSO.
Duties:
Provides support and facilitation for those TANF, Aged Blind Disabled, and Medical Care Services clients needing access to federal disability benefits, specifically SSI and SSDI. Applies medical diagnostic terminology and categories to assist and determine client incapacity/disability. Tracks outcomes of referrals to SSA. Under certain circumstances, may need to provide full scope of social service support to an individual client. The primary focus of the funded position is to! provide SSI facilitation. Key Activities for this position in! clude increasing unduplicated SSI filings, reducing missed deadlines, ensuring a current Interim Assistance Reimbursement Agreement is completed with ABD cases, and assuring TANF cases in XB compoents receive SSI facilitation services.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Interviews, evaluates, and refers TANF and ABD/MCS clients for medical, psychiatric, and other tests.
- Reviews and interprets test results to determine level of incapacity.
- Facilitates the application process for TANF and ABD/MCS clients by assisting them to complete the SS application, coordinating medical examinations, gathering medical documents and providing professional psychosocial assessment of their circumstances.
- Facilitate the transition to federal medical benefit programs per program related polices.
- Serves as liaison for the client and works collaboratively with DDS, SSADO, medical providers, attorneys, CSO based social workers.!
- Monitor participation in treatment needed to document medical conditions.
- Distinguish between physical/mental condition and chemical dependency.
- Monitor application process to ensure all deadlines for appeals are made.
- Tracks outcome of facilitation; prepare reports and analysis for local, regional, and statewide data purposes.
- Document assessments and case management services in appropriate electronic case management system, including but not limited to SSPS, ICMS, E-Jas, Barcode, ACES, ACES on-line.
- Ensuring there is an appropriate IARA.
- Travels as needed, makes home visits.
- Screen for and assist individuals in accessing VA benefits.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Eighteen months as a Social Service Specialist 1 (formerly Social Worker 1) since July 1, 1988. OR A Master's degree in social servi! ces, human services, behavioral sciences, or an allied field, and one y! ear as a Social Service Specialist 1 (formerly Social Worker 1) or equivalent paid social service experience.

OR A Bachelor's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or an allied field, and two years of paid social service experience performing functions equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 1.
Note: A two year Master's degree in one of the above fields that included a practicum will be substituted for one year of paid social service experience.

Technical skills in the use of automated equipment and software applications for the majority of the work, such as computers and Microsoft Office Suite! software products, agency-specific systems such as ICMS, EJAS, DCS, Go! od Cause, ACES ONLINE, BARCODE, telephones, fax & copy machines, etc.
Use crisis, stress & time management strategies for self and clients.
Monitor client program activities.
Maintain electronic files.
Supplemental Information:
This position is covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement (WFSE). Therefore, as a condition of employment, candidates who are appointed are required to become members of the Washington Federation of State Employees, or pay other representational fees within the first 30 days of employment.
