Accountability The Department of Social and Health Services, Economic Services Administration (ESA) is recruiting for one (1) non-permanent position located in the Spokane, WA.

In the Division of Disability Determination Services, the primary purpose of the MAS 2 position is to facilitate case processing for Social Security Disability programs and Non-Grant Medical Assistance claims for Washington State. This position works to coordinate and schedule examinations with Consultative Examiners who perform disability evaluations for the DDDS. It also includes working with State interpreter and transportation brokers to coordinate services for claimants. This position also det! ermines and authorizes payment for services rendered.

! Duties:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Coordinates and schedules physical and/or mental Consultative Examinations (CE) that have been ordered by adjudicators and/or Administrative Law Judges.
Evaluates to ensure appropriate tests are ordered for claimant’s allegations.
Reviews claimant’s allegations and determines if test is applicable to examination order.
May make changes to the exam order based upon knowledge and judgment of medical providers and tests. Contacts the adjudicator or ALJ if unable to schedule the ordered tests/examinations and recommend alternatives.
Must know which tests/exams are performed by medical specialists and understand and utilize CPT and ICD-9 coding in scheduling.
Communicates, resolves discrepancies and/or obtain additional information daily with claimants, physicians, clinics, hospitals, psychologists, interpreters and transportation providers to schedule appointments for examinations nee! ded for SSA claims.
Analyzes and interprets the SSA Program Operations Manual System (POMS) when scheduling consultative examinations.
Ensures reports are submitted on time per DSHS Contract and contacts medical provider if report is overdue.
Ensures contents of CE reports adheres to examination guidelines and confirms all components of medical tests are included in the report and approves payment authorization.
Must have knowledge of CPT codes and knowledge of multiple types of medical and psychological tests (and subtests) are included in the narrative report.
Verifies the CE provider is billing correctly for services rendered and makes adjustments to the payment authorization, if necessary.
Verifies requested testing is completed and contacts the medical provider to obtain any missing information.
Forwards CE reports to third parties per the claimant’s request, after verifying the appropriate disclosure forms are accurate and complete prior ! to disclosing confidential information and protecting Personally Identi! fiable Information (PII).
Arranges for interpreters and transportation as appropriate with State contracted brokers.
Utilizes a third party website to request and modify interpreter requests as well as DDDS system.
Processes payment for travel and/or interpreter reimbursements.

Qualifications:
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
A Bachelor's degree.
OR
One year of experience as a Medical Assistance Specialist 1
OR
Experience providing direct client services or counseling of customers in the areas of health insurance, disability, or other related health benefits; public assistance eligibility determination; staff support for medical assistance; health insurance premiums/claims processing, adjusting, and investigation; or other medical premiums/claims related experience will substitute, year for year, for the required education.

DESIRABLE EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to navigate through AS400 computer system and understand the discrepancies between State and Federal computer databases.
Knowledge of medical and psychiatric tests to determine validity and appropriateness when scheduling with each medical specialty.
Knowledge of the appropriate tests for each allegation entered by the adjudicative staff.
Knowledge of CPT and specialty codes unique to the DDDS.
