Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua |MidCentral (MidCentral) is part of Te Whatu Ora|Health New Zealand and provides healthcare services to over 180,000 people across the Manawatū, Horowhenua and Tararua regions. With a large hospital campus in Palmerston North, it also provides key health care and support services to neighbouring communities.
The Opportunity
MidCentral District provides an excellent grounding for Ophthalmology Registrars looking to grow and develop their skills. There are a range of clinics and elective surgeries that you will be able to participate in as well as trauma cases coming in through the Emergency Department.
The wider eye service includes two registrars (one RANZCO vocational trainee), ophthalmic clinic nurses (incl. extended practice roles), an orthoptist, ophthalmic technicians, and visiting optometrists. The service provides specialist outpatient and inpatient ophthalmology services, and primary health care support. MidCentral provides a regional cancer treatment service to a wider catchment across the lower North Island.
Technologically the service is well resourced with OCT, Argon retinal laser, YAG laser, Selective Laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), cyclodiode laser, Centurion phacoemulsification and DORC posterior vitrectomy equipment and Pentacam
