The UWMC Resource Team has an outstanding opportunity for a part time 80% evening shift Patient Services Specialist 1 or 2 (PSS).

The PSS accurately registers and admits patients by obtaining and verifying demographic and financial information through interviews wi! th patients, family members, or other health care providers. A! ccurately enters admission and registration information on a PC or computer terminal to create on-line database. Determines payor plan/coverage information based on verification of insurance from patient's insurance cards. Explains and verifies patient's understanding of consent and obtains appropriate signatures on paperwork and information sheets. Places armbands on patients' wrist after verifying identity of patient.

Provides information on (and knowledge of) Patient Rights and Responsibilities, and the Patient Self-Determination Act including Health Directive and Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care forms. Assigns hospital beds based on diagnosis, medical service, and other patient care needs; maintain records of inpatient location; completes admission transfers and discharges from nursing units via the on-line computer system; balances the 24 hr. hospital census and completes census reports. Collects, secures and releases patient valuables. Inquiries and/! or performs data entry on various information systems. Answers incoming calls. Greets patients and visitors when they enter the department.

Provides information to patients and visitors. Respond to all inquiries regarding Patient Rights and Responsibilities, Notice of Release of Information, Patient Confidentiality and all issues as it pertains to departmental operations. Uses and supports Quality Management/CQI principles in department and UWMC operations. Ability to collect and enter demographics and financial data into an on-line system. Knowledge of procedure for obtaining consent for care.

REQUIREMENTS:
The PSS will be hired as either a 1-Trainee or a 2 depending on experience. The requirements are as follows:

PATIENT SERVICES SPECIALIST 1-TRAINEE: High School ! graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience in a health care se! tting OR two years of general office experience OR equivalent education/experience.

PATIENT SERVICES SPECIALIST 2: High School graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience in a health care setting OR three years of general office or customer services experience OR equivalent education/experience.
